INTEGRATED FAMILY PROGRAM

The program engages families who are struggling to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency, using evidence-based assessments and ongoing evaluation. These barriers include unstable family situations, generational poverty, exposure to violence, and fears regarding immigration status.


The Integrated Family Program (IFP) provides support to individuals by educating them with a variety of skills to be implemented in building and strengthening family relationships. The program offers weekly group sessions that demonstrate healthy relationships, basic parenting skills, stress and anger management, nutrition and wellness, as well as financial awareness.



Enrollment & Orientation
All participants must be enrolled prior to attending first session. Enrollment consists of collecting the individual’s demographic information and questionnaires to help guide the individual in the right direction and provide adequate resources.

Family Relationships
The first eight (8) sessions of IFP are essential in this program because it helps the individual gain confidence and motivation needed to continue throughout the 2-yr program. These sessions focus on individual’s family needs; therefore, they receive one-to-one guidance and support.

Parenting
This (5) five session course allows parents to feel more connected, involved, and focused on their child. This course is crucial in developing a strong and healthy bond/relationship with their child.

Stress Management
This (4) four-session course educates individuals on stress development and its short-term and long-term effects in our family and life. This course also provides relaxation techniques such as hand reflexology and tai chi movements to achieve decreased levels of stress.

Nutrition & Wellness
The nutrition (4) four-session course covers topics on the family’s overall wellbeing, healthy-eating habits, obtaining healthy weight, and physical activity. This course is offered to our participants with one main goal to make long lasting changes to our health.

Anger Management
The Anger Management (4) four-session course provides hands-on ways to cope with anger, helping participants build positive relationships and address conflict in a constructive and healthy way.

Financial Awareness
This (4) four session course assists participants in setting financial goals, preparing financially for natural disasters, dealing with debt, and maintaining a budget. This allows them to learn how to save money in difficult times and preparing for emergencies or disasters.

Income-Generation
This (8) eight session course educates participants on how to generate income from home by providing them with the required materials to do arts and crafts at little or no cost. This includes jewelry-making, baking class, cake decorating, as well as, other activities like creating Easter baskets or wreaths.



We offer Individual and family counseling services (at no cost to the participant) through the following channels: the Licensed Clinical Social Worker on the PJD staff, the contracted Licensed Professional Counselor from Methodist Healthcare Ministries, or the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) Master’s of Social Work student under the supervision of the LCSW PJD staff member.


 
 

 

AFTER-SCHOOL
PROGRAM

The program focuses on tutoring services for children and adolescents (K-12) struggling academically. Our tutors work one-on-one with students to help them fully comprehend and complete their class assignments, homework, and special projects. This program also offers a health and wellness class (Club Fri-YAY!) every Friday to help improve the overall well-being of our students.


Monday thru Friday from 3:30 to 5:30 pm, K-12 levels.



Club Fri-YAY! is weekly (90-minute) class that covers health, fitness, nutrition, and mental health awareness topics. Mental health awareness sessions focus on a variety of social-emotional and behavioral topics impacting children. These include, but are not limited to affect identification and expression, suicide awareness and prevention, bullying, and healthy relationships.



The summer camp program offers craft classes, games, performances, and lots of fun in a safe and friendly environment. The activities are designed to increase creativity, self-esteem and kindness to develop children's leadership skills while making new friends. On our last camp day, we'll have water activities that include water slides, food, games, and overall an exciting and fun time! This program is totally free, as children should just come ready to learn and enjoy summer days at PJD.
