GED IN SPANISH PROGRAM

The General Educational Development (GED) test is a group of four subject tests that, when passed, provide certification that the test taker has United States high school-level academic skills. It is an alternative to the US high school diploma. The goal of the GED classes is to help participants achieve HS diploma equivalency by increasing their academic skills through classes, tutoring, encouragement, and support.


At least Middle School studies, have Access to a desktop, laptop or tablet, basic computer skills, ID of Cameron County residence, recovery fee of $50.00, Buy 4 official GED books (Paxen publisher), and attend orientation



PJD is responsible for the promotion, advertisement, and recruitment of students, and the registration process as well. Classes are delivered at the main building, with a max. capacity of 16 students in person and the rest of students via zoom (Aprox. 50 students enrolled).



PJD offers GED classes Wednesdays and Fridays 8:15am to 12:15pm, following the BISD calendar. Classes are hybrid, delivered in person and by zoom. The program has been developed to cover two subjects per semester, math and science in the spring semester, and language arts and social studies in the fall semester.


 

 

ESL PROGRAM

Adult Continue Education (ACE) of BISD, in partnership with PJD, offers ESL (English as a Second Language). Classes are delivered at Proyecto Juan Diego in person, following the BISD school calendar. The goal of the English as a Second Language (ESL) program is to educate adults to communicate effectively with others, become independent, and be current with trends in employment and higher education.


Resident of Cameron County; Current state or government issued picture ID; Social Security Card (if you have one); Proof of government assistance (if applicable); 17-18 year olds must bring: withdrawal letter from last school attended, birth certificate, accompanied by parent/legal guardian to sign registration authorization form.



BISD is responsible for the enrollment and orientation, that are twice a year at the beginning of the semesters of spring and fall. BISD might enroll at the middle of the semester, depending of recruitment needs. PJD is responsible for providing the space to deliver the classes, also promoting and advocating ESL classes through social media, fliers and by word of mouth.

To enroll in our ESL classes, candidates should attend in person the date of the registration to fill out registration forms, to have a test and to receive orientation.



Classes are Monday thru Thursday from 1:15 PM to 4:15 PM
